Sports Ministry Snubs Coach Appiah -Over Salary Arrears

There are all indications the Ministry of Youth and Sports is not ready to settle the salary arrears owed to former Black Stars’ coach, Mr. Kwasi Appiah.

While the gentle coach was using legitimate means to secure his cash, the Sports Ministry is using cockish and communist moves to deny him his money.

In the mind of the spokesperson for the Sports Minister, Kofi Asare Brako, former Black Stars’ coach Kwasi Appiah does not need his five months’ salary arrears to survive.

Appiah and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) are in a tussle over the five months’ salary arrears.

The Sports Ministry has pledged they will settle the $185,000 arrears.

According to Mr. Brako, Appiah, 61, has enough money to spend and must give the ministry time to pay the arrears.

“Kwasi Appiah is not hungry, he is a big man, he has enough money, we have paid him over 27 months salaries, plus signing on fee of $250,000,” he told Asempa FM in an interview.

Appiah, 61, was given a two-year contract in 2017, and further extended till December 2019, but the Ghana FA failed to renew his contract expiration.

Before exiting, the soft-spoken gaffer was owed five months’ salaries spanning August to December 2019.

The coach has since sent a notice to the FA of his intent to drag the country’s football governing body to FIFA for his money.

According to Mr. Brako, Mr. Appiah will be “ungrateful” to report GFA to FIFA over his unpaid salaries.

Brako believes the 59-year-old should be thankful to the Football Association for not sacking him, after failing to achieve the mandate.

“Kwasi Appiah is ungrateful to report GFA to FIFA. He should know that when you report GFA you have reported Ghana to FIFA,” Asare Brako told Nhyira FM.

“FIFA will inquire about the contract document between the two parties and will make a judgement based on your achievement in the contract.

“He failed to perform his four mandates tasked to him in the contract, but was not fired.

Brako added, “He should have even thanked the GFA and the Sports Ministry for that.”

“What Kwesi Appiah is doing makes him ungrateful to Ghana. He should show gratitude to GFA and MoYS.”
