Nepotism which is prevalent in the current administration, led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, is eating deep into every fibre of the waste management business.
There is grand agenda by some huge forces within the ruling class to promote certain waste management companies over those with the requisite equipment and experience to deliver.
The danger of the deadly game is that the President’s agenda of making Accra, especially, the nicest city has virtually suffered a ditch because of the grubby agenda by some of his men.
The recent waste management companies’ rating by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) was nothing but a decoy to promote one company over the other.
All but one company failed to have the average mark in the recent rating by the AMA in assessing the work the companies were doing in some parts of Accra.
The company that the government officials are promoting belongs to a school mate that they attended one of missionary boys’ secondary schools with in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s.
That same company is also being promoted by gurus of the National Youth Employment Agency (NYEA) over other well-established waste management companies with track record.
What is amazing is the fact that areas being covered by the darling company of the said government officials and New Patriotic Party (NPP) gurus are being swallowed by filth, while they are working against those that are rather helping in the management of waste in Accra.
The dirty machinations have gotten to a level that the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, (MLGRD), Hajia Alima Mahama, has been earmarked for character assassination because she is not for the agenda against the competent waste management companies.
Sources at MLGRD have it that some top officials of the ministry who are to help the minister in the discharge of her duties have turned themselves into executives of the company that they want to short-change the competent ones for.
The Inquisitor has it that there are serious concerns on the whole game plan, as some waste management companies have had cause to complain about how some state actors want them out of business.
The sources at the MLGRD say that with what is going on, President Akufo-Addo’s agenda of making Accra in particular and Ghana as a whole clean will be a mirage.
